A major improvement project is underway as we redevelop the northwest section of our campus. This project includes an indoor dining space, learning kitchen and café, performing arts theater, edible schoolyard, outdoor plaza, and campus-wide Wi-Fi.

The St. Matthias Theater creates a home for the school’s burgeoning visual and performing arts programs as well as a venue for lecture opportunities and community meetings. Adjacent to this space is the answer to the surveyed needs of an ever growing student body: the Warrior Cafe! In addition to upgraded indoor and outdoor seating areas, its new kitchen will prepare meals during the school day while also operating as an after school café and providing an unprecedented opportunity for culinary learning experiences at PMA.

Outdoor redevelopment includes an edible schoolyard by way of community gardens, positively impacting student learning by promoting health and wellness, shaping positive attitudes towards healthy food, engaging students in essential life skills, and complimenting science instruction through hands-on learning. This space will create the opportunity for PMA to enhance curricular offerings, supply ingredients to the Warrior Cafe, beautify our campus, and create community.

And last but most certainly not least, to meet the needs of today’s technologically demanding world, students must have the ability to collaborate, create and communicate digitally wherever they are at PMA. In order to meet this need, all areas detailed above will be equipped with WiFi.

Thanks to the generosity of the John H. & Cynthia Lee Smet Foundation and Shea Family Charities, the beautiful structures and their incredible surrounding space now underway, are set to be completed this spring. There is still much to be accomplished within the details of the northwest campus redevelopment and with the Ahmanson Foundation pledging the lead gift to fund the audio portion of the auditorium, we now look to you, our community of PMA investors to help the school realize its vision of providing this Catholic university experience for teenagers on our Downey campus. Alumni, parents, benefactors, visionaries now is the time to join us in completing this very important initiative.
